Two types of programming : SPI serial mode or parallel mode. Some DDS sometimes offer possibility be programmed in serial mode (10 MHz serial 2 -wire or 3 -wire SPI- compatible) or in parallel mode (100 MHz 8-bit parallel programming) as shown in the datasheet of the AD9852 . ad9852.pdf
